In the era when Rush Limbaugh dominated the airwaves, he actively sought to drive moderate Republicans out of the GOP. Those who did not align with the far-right agenda and were politically engaged often found themselves relegated to what could be described as the Democrats’ “Three Ring Circus.” Over time, the ideals and principles of moderate Republicans began to blend into Democratic ideology. This shift was particularly pronounced during Bill Clinton’s presidency, characterized by a more youthful and less conventional approach to governance.

Clinton’s strategy of triangulation aimed to position Democrats as conservative and respectable as their Republican counterparts, inadvertently pushing Progressives out of the mainstream political discourse. By 2016, Progressive Democrats had become such a minority that the Democratic Party in Iowa established an official Progressive Caucus to represent their interests.

Now, in 2025, the political landscape has drastically changed. We find ourselves grappling with a leader whose behavior raises serious concerns, and there is a palpable absence of Progressive or Democratic representation among our elected officials. The persistence of extreme factions within the GOP continues to shape the political battles we face, raising fears that the fabric of our democracy is at risk. If this trend persists, the unsettling possibility of foreign intervention on American soil could become a harsh reality.
