Trump’s Second Term: An Aggressive Push for Change Amidst Controversy
Donald Trump’s return to the White House has been marked by an unprecedented pace of executive action. In just over a month, he has signed 74 executive orders, 20 memoranda, and seven proclamations (Gardenswartz, 2025). This rapid output has set a record for presidential initiatives. With these actions, Trump aims to reshape the federal government in bold and controversial ways.
Immigration Policies Under Fire
On January 20, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border and deployed 1,500 troops to assist with immigration enforcement (Meyer, 2025). His administration has framed its immigration policies as a necessary response to an invasion, leading to military helicopters being deployed for deportations. Many undocumented immigrants now live in fear as ICE ramped up its operations, conducting raids across the nation (Kuang, 2025).
I did not vote for Donald Trump and I do not support him but I believe that Trump is the best thing to happen to this country in a long time. He’s bringing out the country’s ugliness. There’s no turning a blind eye anymore.

Trump has targeted long-standing principles like birthright citizenship with a vengeance. His first-day executive order aimed to terminate the practice that has granted citizenship to children born in U.S. soil, regardless of their parents’ status. This move faced immediate judicial pushback as federal judges blocked the order as unconstitutional. Still, Trump remains steadfast in pushing his anti-immigrant agenda.
Rhetoric and Reality
Trump’s claims about crime among undocumented immigrants have drawn scrutiny. While he asserts that dangerous individuals are crossing the border, data contradicts this narrative, revealing no evidence for these claims (Dale, 2025). His portrayal of immigrants has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, forcing many to reconsider their daily routines, such as going to work or school.
Economic Claims Under Scrutiny
Trump’s confidence in predicting economic rebounds is equally polarizing. He asserts that drastic changes will bring forth an economic renaissance, but skepticism persists. According to polling data, a significant number of Americans disapprove of Trump’s economic policies, especially given rising costs of living as inflation affects daily necessities (Balz, Clement, and Guskin, 2025). The public sees tariffs as a potential source of higher prices on goods. Trump’s calls for a 25% tariff on products from foreign nations are considered a double-edged sword. While he argues that these tariffs will protect American jobs, economists warn that they could lead to an increase in consumer prices and retaliatory measures from trade partners (Gardenswartz, 2025).
The Cultural Climate
Cultural issues have taken center stage in Trump’s administration. His decision to eliminate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs has received strong reactions. DEI initiatives have sparked a cultural backlash, with supporters applauding the move while opponents decry it as a regression. Trump’s administration has made a point to redefine gender in federal policy, declaring only two genders: male and female. This has met with intense opposition from various communities advocating for LGBTQ+ rights (Meyer, 2025; Kuang, 2025).
Legal Challenges and Executive Orders
Trump’s executive actions often face legal challenges. Many policies aimed at immigration, environmental regulations, and social issues are under scrutiny. Numerous lawsuits have emerged attempting to block or slow his progress, reflecting a public demand for accountability (Balz, Clement, and Guskin, 2025). The courts are now playing an essential role in determining the legality of Trump’s rapid changes, with federal judges already halting several initiatives due to their constitutionality.
Public Sentiment and Approval Ratings
Public sentiment regarding Trump’s actions is starkly divided. A Washington Post-Ipsos poll reveals that 57% of Americans feel Trump has exceeded his authority since taking office. While 43% support his actions, nearly half oppose them, illustrating a significant polarization in public opinion (Balz, Clement, and Guskin, 2025). Among independents, the approval ratings are even murkier, with about one-third in favor of his actions and half against.
More concerning for Trump is the erosion of support even within his own base. As of April 9, 2025, the latest Quinnipiac University poll indicates his approval rating has dropped to 41%, with 53% of respondents expressing disapproval. This decline in approval reflects growing skepticism even among traditional Republican supporters, threatening his ability to maintain strong political capital moving forward.
Conclusion: A Transition in Support
Ultimately, as Trump charts his course in the early days of his second term, the landscape appears increasingly complicated. His aggressive policy decisions have galvanized his base while simultaneously alienating significant portions of the American electorate. The ambitious push to dismantle established systems and introduce new initiatives is met with both fervent support from loyalists and deep skepticism from critics.
Trump’s administration is characterized by bold proclamations about economic recovery and national security. However, the reality on the ground is less straightforward. Many Americans express concern about the impact of his trade policies, especially tariffs, on their daily expenses and the overall economy. The discontent over rising costs reflects a growing frustration that may dampen the enthusiasm of his supporters.

While Trump aims to project strength by implementing sweeping changes, the backlash from various sectors of society indicates that his governance style may be unsustainable in the long run. The legal battles erupting over his executive actions will shape the direction of his administration and potentially limit his administrative effectiveness.
As the public grapples with the ramifications of Trump’s policies, it remains to be seen whether he can retain support from his base or if discontent will lead to a greater pushback from the electorate. The erosion observed in his approval ratings—including the latest Quinnipiac poll showing only 41% favorable views—serves as a warning sign that the political landscape may shift rapidly.
The early momentum of Trump’s presidency may soon be met with resistance, as constituents call for accountability and transparency in governance. As he pushes forward, Trump will need not only to maneuver through political opposition but also to respond to the needs and concerns of the broader American populace. The next chapters of his administration will reveal whether the promise of a “Golden Age of America” will hold true or give way to a renewed reckoning in U.S. politics.
