Let’s not mince words: the United States has officially jumped the shark. We actually re-elected Donald Trump in November 2024—by a razor-thin 1.5% majority—and handed him the keys again on January 20, 2025. Ever since, he’s been stoking chaos like it’s his personal brand of governance.

And who got him there? The red-hatted MAGA cult that spent years screeching about “law and order” while cheering for a man who openly threatens to use the U.S. Marines as immigration cops—an idea so flagrantly unconstitutional it would be funny if it weren’t real.

These folks love to quote the Constitution until it says something they don’t like. The Posse Comitatus Act? Never heard of it. Separation of powers? Optional. Checks and balances? Only when the other side is in charge.

Meanwhile, America has never been good at holding the powerful accountable. We have two systems of justice: one for the poor bastard with meth in his pocket, and one for rich, well-connected autocrats who promise “retribution” against their enemies. The first guy? He’ll rot in prison. The second? We hand him four more years and hope he doesn’t suspend the next election.

It’s absurd that this country will enforce the harshest drug laws on people who’ve already lost everything, while the powerful openly plot ways to jail their opponents and use the military as domestic police. And we act surprised when the courts drag their feet to even bring them to trial.

The worst part is the moral cowardice of the so-called “respectable” Republicans who know exactly what Trump is and back him anyway. They can’t even claim ignorance at this point. The man has told us—again and again—what he intends to do with power.

And let’s talk about the MAGA base. Don’t give me the “left behind” sob story. They didn’t vote for better schools or healthcare. They voted for punishment—punishment for immigrants, for liberals, for anyone who doesn’t look or think like them. And they want the full weight of the state’s violence behind it.

Yet the U.S. military oath doesn’t swear loyalty to any president. It swears to uphold the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That oath matters, even if too many people are ready to forget it when it’s their guy in charge.

We need accountability across the board. Arrest the meth dealer? Fine. But also prosecute the coup plotter. Jail the street criminal? Sure. But also indict the crook in a suit who sells out our democracy for power.

Because if we keep pretending that law and order only applies to the powerless, then don’t be shocked when the country burns down around us. And don’t you dare call it anything but what it is: the logical result of cowardice, greed, and the worship of power at any cost.
