Subject: Formal Diplomatic Complaint – “Aesthetic Aggression” and Misrepresentation of French Cultural Icons

To Whom It May Gravely Concern,

It has come to the urgent and horrified attention of the French Republic that recent developments concerning the visual reinterpretation of La Liberté éclairant le monde—known to Americans as the “Statue of Liberty”—constitute an act of “aesthetic aggression” against both the French people and the broader Francophone cultural inheritance.

On June 18th, a leaked memo outlined a proposed physical redesign of Lady Liberty. On June 23rd, a so-called “cosplay resume” surfaced, apparently submitted by an aspiring model claiming to “embody” the proposed redesign in a latex bikini and platform heels. This culminated, to our dismay, in an illustrated rendering released by what appears to be the so-called “Art Department” of Occupy 2.5, showing Lady Liberty with augmented bosom, reduced drapery, and the facial expression of someone auditioning for a late-stage reality show.

We, the French people, object in the strongest possible terms.

This new portrayal contradicts not only classical aesthetic principles but also the spirit of international solidarity symbolized by the original statue, a gift from France to the United States. Moreover, the model in question—while undoubtedly gifted in her… presentation—is American. This is historically and culturally inaccurate. Lady Liberty is French. Period.

Let us be clear: France does not object to evolving representations of liberty. We merely object to her being turned into a swimsuit calendar entry with patriotic cleavage.

We demand immediate:

  1. Retraction of the leaked memo and all related cosplay documentation;
  2. Official clarification from the United States government as to whether this design is being seriously considered;
  3. An apology issued through diplomatic channels and published across NATO media platforms;
  4. An emergency session of the Allied Cultural Oversight Board to discuss how best to prevent future… enhancements.

At the risk of being accused of being misogynistic by the misandry, we assert: Some icons are sacred. You wouldn’t augment the Mona Lisa with a push-up bra. Do not do it to Liberty.

À qui de droit (et à qui ne peut plus l’ignorer),

Il est parvenu à l’attention immédiate et outrée de la République française que des événements récents concernant la « réinterprétation visuelle » de La Liberté éclairant le monde—connue outre-Atlantique sous le nom de « Statue de la Liberté »—constituent un acte d’agression esthétique contre le peuple français et le patrimoine culturel francophone dans son ensemble.

Le 18 juin, un mémo interne proposait une refonte physique de Lady Liberty. Le 23 juin, un CV dit “cosplay” a été rendu public, apparemment soumis par une modèle américaine souhaitant incarner la nouvelle version de la statue dans une tenue… disons, réduite. Et aujourd’hui, une image a été diffusée montrant ladite statue avec une poitrine exagérément mise en valeur, des vêtements réduits à l’état de bikini, et une posture manifestement tirée d’un concours de beauté de second ordre.

La France s’insurge.

Cette représentation va à l’encontre des principes esthétiques classiques et trahit l’esprit de solidarité internationale symbolisé par la statue originale, offerte par la France aux États-Unis. De plus, la candidate proposée n’est même pas française. C’est inacceptable.

Soyons clairs : la France ne s’oppose pas aux interprétations modernes de la liberté. Mais nous refusons de voir notre symbole transformé en pin-up de calendrier militaire.

Nous exigeons :

  1. Le retrait immédiat du mémo et de tous documents connexes ;
  2. Une clarification officielle des États-Unis concernant l’intention réelle de ce projet ;
  3. Des excuses diplomatiques publiées sur les canaux médiatiques de l’OTAN ;
  4. Une réunion d’urgence du Conseil Culturel de l’Alliance afin de prévenir toute récidive.

Au risque d’être accusés de misogynie par la misandrie, nous affirmons ceci : certains symboles sont sacrés. On n’ajoute pas un soutien-gorge push-up à la Joconde. Alors, on ne le fait pas à la Liberté.
