Write Your Representative: It Matters
The Trump Administration’s second term is chiseling authoritarianism into federal policy. First, the March 25 “Integrity of American Elections” order centralizes voter rolls, mandates a national voter-ID system, and green-lights targeted purges—disproportionately disenfranchising students and communities of color. (The White House, The White House) Second, on May 1 the Department of Justice scrapped Rule 50.10 protections, restoring the power to subpoena journalists and spy on sources. Press freedom becomes a felony-adjacent activity, chilling every future exposé. (Reporters Committee, Ballard Spahr) Third, Interior plans released July 7 reopen 2,600 square miles of public land in the Powder River Basin for coal leases while slashing royalty rates—super-charging carbon emissions just as climate records shatter. (AP News, Montana Free Press, U.S. News) Fourth, immigration orders dated June 7–16 expand mass raids, deputize local police under 287(g), and deploy at least 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, turning immigration enforcement into a paramilitary occupation. (Axios, The White House, CBS News) Fifth, the March 27 “Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs” order strips collective-bargaining rights from huge swaths of the federal workforce—an overt assault on organized labor and every safety check unions provide. (The White House, U.S. Office of Personnel Management)
Each move razes a guardrail: voting rights, free press, climate stewardship, immigrant protections, and labor power. Taken together they form a coherent fascist pipeline—centralize authority, silence critics, militarize dissent, and crush collective resistance. Congress cannot claim ignorance; the evidence is written into the Federal Register and enforced on the streets. Constituents must flood the record with opposition while democracy still has breath.

Subject: Defend Democracy—Reject Trump’s Authoritarian Orders
Dear Representative [Name],
I am your constituent from [ZIP]. I ask you to publicly oppose five recent Trump directives that erode our Republic:
- National voter-ID & purge order (03/25/25)
- DOJ rollback targeting journalists (05/01/25)
- Coal-lease expansion & carbon-rule repeal (07/07/25)
- ICE raid surge & National Guard deployment (06/07–16/25)
- Federal union-busting EO (03/27/25)
These actions disenfranchise voters, criminalize a free press, sabotage the climate, militarize immigration policy, and weaken worker protections—hallmarks of creeping fascism. I urge you to
• Press for immediate legislative reversal
• Issue a floor statement condemning authoritarianism
• Vote “NO” on any bill that advances these agendasHistory is watching. Please stand with democracy.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[City, State]
