🛍️ The Dallas Galleria is all gleam and glamour—glass ceilings, designer boutiques, and polished cafes where influencers sip matcha and plot their next post. But near the corner café on Level 1, where the sidewalk spills into a modern plaza of fountains and manicured hedges, something far less curated sometimes slips through.

She’s called The Phantom Shopper.

First spotted in the 1990s, this woman appears out of step with time—bouffant hair, a Jackie O coat, and a handbag from a department store that closed decades ago. She’s often seen browsing, then suddenly vanishing just as a clerk turns to greet her.

One evening, a barista locked eyes with her as she hovered by the patio rail, looking confused. “Where’s Sakowitz?” she asked. The problem? Sakowitz left the Galleria in 1986.

Some say she’s a victim of consumerism, literally. Others claim she died during an escalator accident before the mall’s redesign. Whatever the truth, her image shows up in security footage—a reflection in glass, never facing the camera directly. Mall staff now refer to that corridor as Dead Aisle 3.

Vacation Tip: Sip your espresso on the outdoor café plaza if you dare, but if a woman in a powder-blue coat asks you where Neiman’s perfume counter used to be—don’t answer. Just leave. Some shoppers never stop shopping.
