Just Another Friendly Occupier

I joined Bluesky on February 3, 2025. As of today, that is one year, eight months, and 23 days—630 days of watching, posting, offering books, sharing independent work, and occasionally wondering whether anybody is actually listening.
Bluesky can be useful if what you want is a running account of what Democrats are saying about Republicans. From where I sit, that conversation gets plenty of oxygen. But offer a different point of view, a little creativity, or something to read that might challenge somebody’s assumptions, and the response can feel like performing for an audience that has already left the building.
Maybe people on Bluesky don’t care. Maybe the people who built it haven’t given them much reason to care about anything beyond the next partisan scrap. Maybe both things are true. I can’t tell. I do know that being present on a platform is not the same as being heard there.
So I’m pulling back. Not quitting. There are still people in the crew who show up, and I appreciate them. There are still people we can reach. But I can’t justify pouring so much energy into a place where the loudest argument often seems to be that the other side is awful. If we never make room to learn, reconsider, or look past our own bias, we’re just decorating the walls of the same old room.
Around the middle of November, we’ll settle into a simpler rhythm: one post at 12:30 p.m. every day, seven days a week, sharing something we found worth reading on WPS News. We’ll remain civil to humanity. We’ll keep the door open. We’ll stop acting as if posting more often will make people curious.
This isn’t a grand departure. It’s an adjustment after 630 days of observation. Keep your eyes open. The story may not be what the two sides are yelling about. It may be why so few people seem interested in hearing anything else.
